China is opening up now is because the lastimperial dynasty, the Qing, intentionally tried to prevent the spread of modernscience and technology in China for fear it would empower the majority of thepeople who were in a difference race than that of the ruling class.
When Qing was overthrown, China was distracted by civil warsand then the Communist movement. Now the world has finally seen the potentialsof the Chinese people when they enjoy peace time.
